Ohau Valley

  What:  Trail walk When:  Saturday 13th June 2020 Where: Ohau Gorge Link:  Topo Map Walk done: Today's walk was an exploration of a track recommendation from an MTR member.  Sus specific 3h return limit, & we stuck to it :D We were so close to Mayo Knob, Richard's Knob, & Butcher's Saddle. We'll be back! Distance: 9.6km Time: 3h Things of interest: Curious cows crossing the paddock to the forest, the distinct lack of sun despite it being a beautiful day, mud mud & more mud, we saw ZERO people (but did hear some people when stopped for schnacks), Proper Crisps bag#1 Quotes:  "Can't go this way, can't go that way ... why the fuck would we go any way at all?" "We're just meatsacks". "Chip me!"

Gorge night walk

  What:  Short night walk When:  Thursday 3rd May 2018 Where:  Gorge track, Manawatu - Ballance end Link:  DOC - Manawatu Gorge Track Walk done:  Short night walk in the gorge, more about catching up & mental health than the actual walk :D Distance:  Bugger all haha Time:  Just over an hour Things of interest: Massive funnel web spider, big almost-full moon, beautiful night sky, dead stoat in DOC trap, "dodgy people" in cars at the start

Sunrise Hut

  What: Day trip When:  Saturday 17th February 2018 Where:  Sunrise Hut, Ruahine Forest Park Link:  DOC – Sunrise Track Walk done:  Sunrise Track Distance:  ~10km Time:  4 hours moving time Things of note : insane wind up by the hut, really cool hut with epic views, two wasps dragging spiders along the path, Proper Crisps at our destination :D

  What: epic day trip When:  Saturday 14th January 2018 Where:  Paekakariki coast Link:  Te Araroa - Escarpment Track Walk done: Escarpment walkway Distance: ~10km Time:   Just under 3 hours Things of note: finally Sus is more confident at something than Amanda ;), a good day for overcoming fears, beautiful weather & amazing views, fun train trip back to the start

Otaki Forks

  What:  weekend adventure camping + hiking When:  Fri 9th night to Sun 11th February 2018 Where: Otaki Forks Link:  DOC - Otaki Forks Walk done: Field Hut, Table Top; Fenceline Loop Distance: ~14km Time: 8.5 hours, 6 hours moving Things of note: gas bottles thread the opposite way to normal, very steep initial uphill, crazy clouds coming in up Table Top, making friends with everyone including the ranger, Amanda makes a kick ass A-frame shelter, Proper Crisps & chocolate for the win!
